I’ve been an avid birder since 1977. After years of thinking about it, I finally began to sketch the birds I see from life. Progress has been slow, but very rewarding, and I think the exercise has improved my observation skills. I hope to post sketches here as I make them, as well as updates from birding trips my wife Cricket and I take together. My regular website is www.birdguy.net

  1. Hi! 🙂 How much are you selling your beautiful bird drawings for? I saw them on display yesterday at CuriOddysey. Do you have others currently for sale, or will you have any other upcoming shows that I should check out? I couldn’t take my eyes off of your birds! Thanks

    • Misha, I’m so glad you like the exhibit. I really appreciate your encouragement. The pieces on display are high resolution scans, which are for sale, including frame and matte for $125 each. I have no shows scheduled after this one, but I can always hope. I draw all the time, so within a few months I’ll have more work to display. Thanks again for your kind words, Matthew.

      • Hi Matthew,
I had the same question. If I would like to buy one of the prints for my husband, do I talk to the Curioddysey staff? Or buy through you? The signage at the site wasn’t clear. Thanks,

      • Joan,
Thank you for your interest in my work. I really appreciate your support! As you have probably read, the framed prints are $125 each and if would like to purchase one you may send me a check. Please email me when you are ready to make a decision and I will give you my address. Thanks again, Matthew. mdodder@sbcglobal.net

  2. Hi Matthew, I tried your email address but perhaps not working? I would like to buy the short-billed dowitcher. Let me know where to send the check. Also, will you send me a copy directly or do I need to pick it up from the Curioddesy museum somehow? Thanks!

  3. Hello Matthew,
I am blown away by your sparrows. (I’m a veteran sparrow technician.) If you ever decide to do one of a Henslow’s Sparrow, let me know. In the mean time, I’m going to try and talk myself out of buying a Grassy print. (I’m just a poor Grad Student at the moment, haha.) Also, if you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park in Okeechobee, FL. There are some great birds out there, including the elusive and critically endangered Florida Grasshopper Sparrow. Well, I need to get back to work, so good luck birding!

    • Thanks for the kind words, Robert. I will definitely check out the areas in Florida some time. It’s about time I returned to that part of the country. I’m glad you liked the Sparrows. They are a favorite group of mine. ~Matthew
