Townsend’s Warbler (initial outline, base colors)

Just had to pick Townsend’s Warbler up again. A month or two ago, I did the rough pencil sketch and set it aside. Much work to do on it still, but I’m excited about where it’s going. The exact nature of the green back is currently a great source of anxiety. It’s a vivid composition of gold, dark green and yellow… It will be a challenge to represent. For now, I’ve just got some base colors. Plenty of black grape used elsewhere… why, I’m not exactly sure.
