Evening Grosbeak


This was a 2-hour portrait of a male Evening Grosbeak. I got excited when I heard about the ABA Bird-of-the-Year competition, so I got started right away. Honestly, I don’t think I have the ability to work more than 2 hours on a given project…. so it’s just a question of whether this one is done, or whether I should start again. I have the feeling the judges will be looking for something unique—not a field guide style male. Maybe a pair… or a flight shot. Still, I like the results of this very quick exercise—the roughness, the visible lines, the colors outside of said lines…
