Juvenile Short-billed Dowitcher (L. g. caurinus)

Juvenile Short-billed Dowitcher. The features I was attempting to show were the generous honey wash on the breast, the neatly organized (and very pointed) gold-fringed scapulars and coverts, and most importantly the intricate intra-feather pattern or “tiger striping” on the tertials. I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one… With important but subtle differences between Atlantic, Prairie and Western populations, there’s plenty of room for error in a drawing.
